Who is Make-A-Wish?

Make-A-Wish creates life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses – many of whom go on to beat their illnesses and credit the wish for giving them the physical and emotional strength they needed to persevere. Headquartered in Phoenix, Arizona, Make-A-Wish is the world’s leading children’s wish-granting organization operating in every community in the United States and in nearly 50 countries worldwide.

Together with generous donors, corporate partners, supporters, staff and more than 24,000 volunteers across the U.S., Make-A-Wish restores hope, renews strength and creates joy for children and their families when they need it most. A wish is not a last wish – it is a lasting wish. It is a pivotal experience during a wish kid’s treatment and recovery, designed to complement a child’s medical treatment and increase their compliance with care. Research also shows that children who have wishes granted can build the physical and emotional strength they need to fight their illness, which can improve their quality of life and produce better health outcomes. Make-A-Wish is the only organization with such a unique ability to restore hope for children and families who have experienced the emotional and mental trauma of fighting a pediatric critical illness.

Since 1980, Make-A-Wish has granted more than 520,000 wishes worldwide; more than 350,000 wishes in the U.S. and its territories alone. For more information about Make-A-Wish, visit wish.org.

Why Did Shoe Carnival and Make-A-Wish partner on this campaign?

It was clear upon our initial discussions that Shoe Carnival and Make-A-Wish shared a common corporate philosophy in regards to our mission and how we focus upon our involvement in the communities in which we operate.

What was the impact for Make-A-Wish from this campaign?

Shoe Carnival customers helped raise nearly $500,000 through this Round-Up campaign! We want to extend our sincerest gratitude for your dedication to wish families. Your incredible generosity will transform countless lives. More than 75 percent of mission delivery costs are covered by financial contributions from individual donors, and these resources are key to bringing children’s wishes to life. Make-A-Wish covers all wish-related expenses to remove any financial stress for wish families, ensuring their focus remains on the child throughout their Wish Journey.

Know that your support will empower children with critical illnesses to reclaim their childhood, families to experience life beyond illness and entire communities like yours to rally together in moments of transformational joy. We all share one common goal – to improve the lives of children with critical illnesses – and your support will help children with critical illnesses replace fear with confidence, sadness with joy and anxiety with hope.

For Shoe Carnival customers who didn’t get to take part in the Round-Up or would like to do more, how can they help now?

Anyone can offer their passion and resources to support our mission – and it can be life-changing for everyone involved. Whether through a one-time or monthly donation, every dollar is crucial to granting wishes. A child is diagnosed with a critical illness every 20 minutes, and our vision is to grant the wish of every eligible child. Your support helps ensure that no child waits one unnecessary day for the physical and emotional benefits that a wish can bring. Visit wish.org to donate and learn more.
